Description

Caramelized chicken wings shine with a sticky, sweet glaze that clings to every crispy edge. One bite is all it takes for these wings to disappear fast.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Protein:

  • 12 chicken wings

Sauce Components:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons soya sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • ½ cup water

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat (around 350°F) and gather your 12 chicken wings with the tips removed.
  2. Combine ½ cup water, ½ cup sugar, 1 tbsp chopped garlic, 2 tbsp vinegar, 4 tbsp soya sauce, and 2 tbsp peanut butter in the skillet.
  3. Increase the heat to high and stir until the sugar completely dissolves, creating a smooth sauce.
  4. Lower the heat to low (around 250°F) and carefully add the chicken wings to the skillet.
  5. Cover the skillet and let the wings simmer for 30 minutes, allowing them to absorb the rich, caramelizing sauce.
  6. Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 30 minutes, periodically spooning the sauce over the wings to enhance their tenderness.
  7. Use a spoon to baste the wings consistently, ensuring each piece gets an even coating of the glossy caramel sauce.
  8. Sprinkle 1-2 tbsp of sesame seeds over the wings during the final 5 minutes of cooking for added texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Chicken wings caramelize best when starting with a dry surface, so pat them thoroughly with paper towels before cooking.
  • The sugar in this recipe can quickly burn, so watch the heat carefully and stir frequently to prevent sticking.
  • For extra crispy wings, finish them under the broiler for 2-3 minutes after simmering to create a gorgeous golden-brown exterior.
  • Gluten-free diets can easily adapt this recipe by using tamari instead of traditional soy sauce and checking that all other ingredients are gluten-free certified.
