Ingredients
Scale
Main Protein:
- 12 chicken wings
Sauce Components:
- ½ cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons soya sauce
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- ½ cup water
Supporting Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons peanut butter
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat (around 350°F) and gather your 12 chicken wings with the tips removed.
- Combine ½ cup water, ½ cup sugar, 1 tbsp chopped garlic, 2 tbsp vinegar, 4 tbsp soya sauce, and 2 tbsp peanut butter in the skillet.
- Increase the heat to high and stir until the sugar completely dissolves, creating a smooth sauce.
- Lower the heat to low (around 250°F) and carefully add the chicken wings to the skillet.
- Cover the skillet and let the wings simmer for 30 minutes, allowing them to absorb the rich, caramelizing sauce.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 30 minutes, periodically spooning the sauce over the wings to enhance their tenderness.
- Use a spoon to baste the wings consistently, ensuring each piece gets an even coating of the glossy caramel sauce.
- Sprinkle 1-2 tbsp of sesame seeds over the wings during the final 5 minutes of cooking for added texture and flavor.
Notes
- Chicken wings caramelize best when starting with a dry surface, so pat them thoroughly with paper towels before cooking.
- The sugar in this recipe can quickly burn, so watch the heat carefully and stir frequently to prevent sticking.
- For extra crispy wings, finish them under the broiler for 2-3 minutes after simmering to create a gorgeous golden-brown exterior.
- Gluten-free diets can easily adapt this recipe by using tamari instead of traditional soy sauce and checking that all other ingredients are gluten-free certified.
