Description

Chicken in Basil Cream Sauce delivers a creamy, herb-infused dinner that makes your weeknight meal feel special. Grab some fresh basil, cream, and tender chicken to create a restaurant-quality dish right in your own kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken:

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • ¾ cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup milk

Sauce Components:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Seasonings and Garnish:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice two chicken breasts horizontally to create four thin cutlets. Pound each cutlet to a ½-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  2. Pour ½ cup milk into one shallow bowl and spread ¾ cup Italian-style breadcrumbs in another. Dunk each cutlet into milk, then thoroughly coat with breadcrumbs.
  3. Heat 3 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat (375°F). Brown cutlets for 2-3 minutes per side until golden, creating a crispy exterior.
  4. Transfer browned cutlets to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Place in a 275°F oven for 10 minutes until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté 2 minced garlic cloves for 30 seconds over medium heat. Your kitchen will start smelling amazing.
  6. Pour ½ cup chicken broth into the skillet, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Bring liquid to a quick boil.
  7. Add 1 cup heavy whipping cream to the skillet. Bring to a light boil, then reduce heat to low-medium.
  8. Stir in ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan, ¼ cup chopped fresh basil, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Simmer sauce for 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
  9. Arrange chicken cutlets on serving plates. Generously ladle warm basil cream sauce over each piece.
  10. Optional: Sprinkle extra basil or Parmesan on top. Serve immediately with pasta, rice, or your favorite vegetables.

Notes

  • Pound chicken cutlets evenly to ensure consistent cooking and prevent dry spots.
  • Use fresh basil for the most vibrant flavor, but dried basil works in a pinch.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap breadcrumbs with almond flour or crushed pork rinds.
  • Let the sauce simmer gently to develop rich flavors without breaking the cream.
