Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 3 Chicken Breasts
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 ⅓ Cups Flour
  • ⅔ Cup Honey
  • 4 to 6 Tablespoons Oil

Spices and Seasonings:

  • 1 Teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Chili Flakes
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon White Pepper
  • ¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper

Sauce and Finishing Ingredients:

  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon Olive Oil
  • 1 ⅓ Tablespoons Corn Starch
  • 3 to 4 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Sesame Seeds

Instructions

  1. Slice 3 chicken breasts completely through, creating 6 total pieces. Pound each piece to ½-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  2. Combine 1 ⅓ cup flour with 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp mustard powder, ½ tsp chili flakes, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp white pepper, and ¼ tsp black pepper in a shallow dish.
  3. Whisk 2 eggs with 1 tbsp cold water in a separate bowl.
  4. Dip each chicken piece into egg mixture, then thoroughly coat with seasoned flour mixture.
  5. Heat 4-6 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet at medium temperature (350°F).
  6. Carefully place floured chicken pieces into hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Flip chicken and cook additional 4-5 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  8. Transfer crispy chicken to a wire rack to maintain crunchiness.
  9. In a separate saucepan, heat 1 tsp olive oil over low heat (250°F).
  10. Sauté 2 minced garlic cloves for 1 minute.
  11. Add ⅔ cup honey and 2 tbsp soy sauce. Stir gently.
  12. Dissolve 1 ⅓ tbsp cornstarch in 3-4 tbsp water in a small bowl.
  13. Pour cornstarch mixture into sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  14. Season sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  15. Toss crispy chicken in honey garlic sauce. Sprinkle 1 tbsp sesame seeds if desired.
  16. Serve immediately while chicken remains crisp and hot.

Notes

  • Butterfly your chicken breasts carefully to create thin, even pieces that cook quickly and evenly.
  • Ensure the oil is at the right temperature (around 350°F) for perfectly crispy chicken without burning.
  • Let the chicken rest on a cooling rack after frying to maintain maximum crispiness and prevent sogginess.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap wheat flour with rice flour or almond flour and use tamari instead of soy sauce.
