- 3 Chicken Breasts
- 2 Eggs
- 1 ⅓ Cups Flour
- ⅔ Cup Honey
- 4 to 6 Tablespoons Oil
Spices and Seasonings:
- 1 Teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Mustard Powder
- ½ Teaspoon Chili Flakes
- ½ Teaspoon Salt
- ½ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ¼ Teaspoon White Pepper
- ¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper
Sauce and Finishing Ingredients:
- 2 Cloves Garlic
- 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 Teaspoon Olive Oil
- 1 ⅓ Tablespoons Corn Starch
- 3 to 4 Tablespoons Water
- 1 Tablespoon Sesame Seeds
Instructions
- Slice 3 chicken breasts completely through, creating 6 total pieces. Pound each piece to ½-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
- Combine 1 ⅓ cup flour with 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp mustard powder, ½ tsp chili flakes, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp garlic powder, ¼ tsp white pepper, and ¼ tsp black pepper in a shallow dish.
- Whisk 2 eggs with 1 tbsp cold water in a separate bowl.
- Dip each chicken piece into egg mixture, then thoroughly coat with seasoned flour mixture.
- Heat 4-6 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet at medium temperature (350°F).
- Carefully place floured chicken pieces into hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip chicken and cook additional 4-5 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Transfer crispy chicken to a wire rack to maintain crunchiness.
- In a separate saucepan, heat 1 tsp olive oil over low heat (250°F).
- Sauté 2 minced garlic cloves for 1 minute.
- Add ⅔ cup honey and 2 tbsp soy sauce. Stir gently.
- Dissolve 1 ⅓ tbsp cornstarch in 3-4 tbsp water in a small bowl.
- Pour cornstarch mixture into sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
- Season sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
- Toss crispy chicken in honey garlic sauce. Sprinkle 1 tbsp sesame seeds if desired.
- Serve immediately while chicken remains crisp and hot.
Notes
- Butterfly your chicken breasts carefully to create thin, even pieces that cook quickly and evenly.
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature (around 350°F) for perfectly crispy chicken without burning.
- Let the chicken rest on a cooling rack after frying to maintain maximum crispiness and prevent sogginess.
- For a gluten-free version, swap wheat flour with rice flour or almond flour and use tamari instead of soy sauce.
