Description

Grilled cheese gets a delicious upgrade with succulent shrimp tucked between golden, crispy bread slices that melt with creamy cheese. Seafood lovers will savor this quick sandwich that combines comfort classic with coastal flair in mere minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 6 oz cooked cocktail shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ¾ cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • ¾ cup grated mozzarella cheese

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Seasoning and Flavor Enhancers:

  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 2 tablespoons butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Sauté 1 minced garlic clove until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon lemon zest to the skillet and cook for another minute.
  3. Toss 6 oz cooked cocktail shrimp into the garlic butter mixture. Warm shrimp for 2 minutes without overcooking.
  4. Transfer shrimp to a mixing bowl. Splash 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice over the shrimp and let cool.
  5. Combine ¾ cup Gruyere, ¾ cup mozzarella, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper with the shrimp mixture.
  6. Spread 2 tablespoons softened butter on one side of each sourdough bread slice. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese over buttered sides and press gently.
  7. Arrange 2 bread slices butter-side down. Layer half the shrimp-cheese mixture on each slice.
  8. Top with remaining bread slices, butter-side facing up.
  9. Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes. Cook sandwiches for 3 minutes, then flip and cook 2 more minutes until golden.
  10. Alternatively, use a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Grill sandwiches 3-4 minutes per side until crispy and cheese melts.
  11. Rest sandwiches 1-2 minutes before slicing. Serve hot for maximum cheesy goodness.

Notes

  • Always use fresh, high-quality shrimp for the best flavor and texture in this grilled cheese.
  • Grate the cheeses yourself instead of buying pre-shredded to ensure a smoother, more even melt and better taste.
  • Let the shrimp mixture cool before adding cheese to prevent premature melting and maintain the perfect sandwich structure.
  • Sprinkle Parmesan on the buttered bread creates an extra crispy, golden-brown crust that adds delicious texture and flavor to your sandwich.
