Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 2 lbs pork belly
Supporting Ingredients:
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup brown sugar
Seasoning and Aromatics:
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Garnish:
- Green onions
- Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cut 2 lbs pork belly into 2-inch pieces. Heat a large skillet over medium heat at 350°F and sear the meat until golden brown on all sides.
- Drain excess fat from the skillet after browning. Transfer pork pieces to a clean plate temporarily.
- Whisk ¼ cup soy sauce, ¼ cup honey, ¼ cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and 1 tablespoon grated ginger in a mixing bowl until well combined.
- Return pork pieces to the skillet and pour the entire glaze mixture over them. Ensure each piece is thoroughly coated.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 35 minutes at 275°F. The sauce will gradually thicken and caramelize around the meat.
- Optional: If you want a thicker glaze, dissolve 1 tablespoon cornstarch in 2 tablespoons water. Stir this slurry into the sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- Remove skillet from heat when pork is tender and glaze is glossy. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons chopped green onions and 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds on top before serving.
- Rest the meat for 3-5 minutes to allow the glaze to set. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Choose a fatty cut of pork belly with good marbling for the most tender and flavorful results.
- Watch the heat carefully when browning to prevent burning and ensure a perfect golden-brown caramelization.
- For a lower-carb option, replace honey with a sugar-free sweetener and use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
- Let the pork belly rest for a few minutes after cooking to allow the juices to redistribute and create an even more succulent texture.
