Description

Chicken Cordon Bleu Meatloaf brings classic French-inspired comfort straight to your dinner table with a tasty twist on traditional meatloaf. Ham, Swiss cheese, and tender ground chicken combine into a hearty meal your family will devour in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground chicken
  • 6 slices Black Forest ham
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs, divided

Supporting Ingredients:

  • ½ small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • ⅓ cup parmesan cheese, finely grated

Instructions

  1. Grab a large mixing bowl and combine 2 lbs ground chicken, ½ diced onion, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 beaten egg, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, ½ cup parmesan, 2 tablespoons parsley, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, and ¼ cup panko. Mix thoroughly until your ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Line your work surface with parchment paper and press the chicken mixture into a 10×12 inch rectangle about ½ inch thick. Layer 6 slices of Black Forest ham across the surface, followed by 6 slices of Swiss cheese.
  3. Using the parchment paper as support, carefully roll the meat mixture from the short end, creating a tight cylinder. Ensure your seam is pinched closed and positioned facing downward.
  4. Transfer the rolled meatloaf into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Brush 2 tablespoons melted butter across the top surface and generously sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Place the loaf pan in a 350°F oven and bake for exactly 60 minutes. Your meatloaf needs to reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
  6. During baking, prepare your sauce by melting 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in 2 tablespoons flour and cook for 1 minute, then gradually stream in 1 ½ cups milk while continuously stirring.
  7. Add 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard and ⅓ cup parmesan to your sauce. Simmer and stir for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens to a smooth consistency.
  8. Remove the meatloaf and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle the warm Dijon sauce over each serving and enjoy your creation.

Notes

  • Always use fresh ground chicken for the best texture and flavor in your meatloaf.
  • Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked without drying out.
  • When rolling the meatloaf, use the parchment paper as a guide to help create a tight, even roll that holds its shape.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap panko breadcrumbs with almond flour or gluten-free breadcrumbs and ensure all other ingredients are gluten-free certified.
